So much for the youth movement. So much for watching fast, exciting young players develop into stars. Not since the pre-Carmelo Nuggets has a Colorado sports franchise stunk up an arena like the 2011 Avalanche. They are terrible. Unwatchable. A complete and total disaster. Move over, Broncos, there’s a new shit show in town.
The Avalanche aren’t just losing; they are getting destroyed night after night after night. Opponents can count on hanging four or five goals on them. Colorado can’t score; the defense is pathetic and the goal tending is the worst in the NHL.
The worst part is that is seems like none of the players seem to care. There’s no sense of fury. Like their fans, the Avalanche just seem to be waiting for this miserable season to be over. There was so much hope headed into this season. That hope is long gone. Peter Forsberg took it back with him to Sweden.
So, where do the Avalanche go from here? Fire Joe Sacco first. He’s got to go. Bring in a goal tender who can tend goal. Say goodbye to Foote and stick a “C” to Liles’ jersey. Spend some money, get off the cap floor. Lower ticket prices dramatically and get some fans back into Pepsi Center.
