With Ads coming to NBA jerseys, who could sponsor the Nuggets?

Rich Kurtzman | July 25, 2012

Hey man, pass the Nuggets…

We’ve seen it in soccer, and nearly every other international basketball league has it too, and now advertising on jerseys is hitting home.

The NBA will begin putting ads on their jerseys starting in the 2013-14 season, interesting considering the league’s jerseys are among the most popular with fans.

Fan backlash is expected, but when the bottom line is dollars, it only makes sense for the league to get sponsorships from from multi-million dollar corporations.

Bill Hanstock recently put together a funny look at what nine of the new jerseys could look like, and surprisingly, the Nuggets weren’t on there.

Here’s a couple of looks at what sponsors could place ads on Denver’s jerseys the season after next:

Medical marijuana dispensaries – OK, it seems a bit unlikely that the NBA would allow dispensaries to advertise on their jerseys, but there’s no doubt that Denver is booming with medical marijuana sales and tax revenues as of late. There are literally hundreds of the small pot shops for the ailing patients looking to get “Rocky Mountain High” and it’s no secret many of the players in the league indulge in puffing tough from time to time.

McDonalds – For Nuggets fans, the “Chicken Nugget” nickname is the worst. But hey, if they can turn a profit off the liscencing, why not? Mc-ie D’s could put their giant golden arches across the chest, while plastering a big box of nuggets on the back.

Shane Company – Hey, here’s another hometown possibility, in the Shane Company. Yes, they’re your friend in the diamond business, but they also have to use a lot of gold to make setting for rings, earrings and so on, therefore the connection to the Nuggets. On the front, a giant Shane Co. logo, and Tom Shane’s mug on the back.

Of course, which company the team eventually chooses is up in the thin air, and we’ll have to wait and see. But, these are at least a few good ideas.
