Wes Welker was apparently a big winner on Sunday at the Kentucky Derby and was not afraid to share the wealth with some lucky fellow Churchill Downs patrons.
One fan told USA Today’s For the Win that the Broncos slot receiver handed out at least six $100 bills before a police officer shut down Welker’s philanthropic efforts. That’s like giving away a gallon of fancy organic milk to us regular people, but it’s still pretty generous of the guy.
According to another fan and longtime derby celebrity watcher Jeff Novak, Welker seemed elated. “He just won probably hundreds of thousands of dollars so he just started handing out money to people like it was no big thing.”
I’m guessing the free flowing bourbon, whiskey or mint juleps in whatever cushy suite Welker was watching the races from may have played a role in his generosity however, it really doesn’t matter.
