Ive only gotten emotional over a hand full of games my whole life; the Broncos beating the Pats in ’05, the Broncos losing to the Steelers in ’05, Eli Manning winning the Superbowl (shut up) and the Tebow to Thomas touchdown pass this season. Sports has that effect on people, it can destroy your day or make you the happiest person on Earth. That’s why all of us enjoy laughing at the newest YouTube sensation; Sad Packers Fan.
For those of you who have been living under a rock for the past three days; this is a video featuring Kasey, the drunk Packers fan who is sobbing in her car after the Giants beat the Pack on Sunday. She blames everything from her friend Megan to the sparkles on her nails to her wearing her Clay Matthews jersey instead of her Rodgers one. The video is only 1:03 long but it has become my favorite video of the season; even over the Browns fans reaction to the Houston game and the Little Girl Vikings Fan.
Why is it my favorite? Because we’ve all been there. As sports fan, you get a little cocky when your team is doing well so when they lose, we are devastated. I’m sure there were hundreds of Broncos fans sobbing in their cars in ’96 when Mark Burnell and the Mighty Jacksonville Jaguars came into Mile High and beat the Broncos, we just didn’t have YouTube then.
The mixture of alcohol and a sports loss is a deadly combination. That’s why we can all enjoy Kasey’s video, because it’s not us. Its relatable yet since its not us we can laugh at it. Yes, our team lost on Saturday…but we weren’t pick to win the damn Superbowl. We overachieved, they underachieved. So we laugh at her sobbing over her green sparkled nails whilst still wearing her cheesehead. Because we know our friends would do the same damn thing to us in our time of sport fanatic pain.
