Uh, oh, Tulo

Colin D. | April 18, 2012

The best shortstop is baseball matched his error total from last year in just his 11th game of 2012.

Something isn’t right with Troy Tulowitski.

During last night’s exciting and historic Jamie Moyer win Tulo almost blew seven excellent innings of pitching by allowing the baseball to slip between his feet on a grounder that drove in two runs. If not for Tulo’s error Moyer would have allowed no runs at all.

The error was Tulo’s sixth on the year, matching his total from 162 games in 2011.

Perhaps that Gold Glove is a little too heavy.

Tulo has not been productive with his bat, either. He has three RBI and zero home runs in his past seven games.

It’s far too early in the season to begin panicking but the Rockies are counting on Troy to be one of their best offensive players and nearly perfect in the field. Tulo’s poor performance is quickly becoming the biggest story of the young season. It’s a bigger problem even than the Rockies shaky starting pitching. We knew that pitching would be troublesome but nobody was expecting Tulo to struggle.

It has not been a pleasant surprise.

If Tulo doesn’t wake up and remember that he’s awesome he’s going to start hearing it from the Coors Field faithful. He got the big contract – hyper criticism comes with it. Fans pay good money to cheer for their favorite player – and they have every right to boo him, too.
