The Denver Broncos know what their fans know: they’ve got two (maybe three) more years to win a Super Bowl with Peyton Manning – and that if they don’t the whole Manning experiment will have failed. That’s why the team has been as active as it has been in free agency. They need to surround Manning with as many good players as possible as quickly as they can. Developing through the draft is not an option when your star quarterback is approaching 40.

The Broncos are contenders right now. As such, Denver is an ideal destination for guys who don’t have much time left to win in the NFL. Two who may want to play here this coming season are former Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw and legendary Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher.

Bradshaw, who’s running upon a surgically repaired foot, was released by New York despite having pranced for over 1,000 yards in 2012. He’s a tough runner who’s known as a load to bring down. Bradshaw could prove valuable in short-yardage situations for the Broncos. There’s a reason he’s still available though. Teams aren’t exactly falling all over each other to sign veteran running backs with the kind of mileage Bradshaw has.

The fact that Brian Urlacher is available is perhaps the most impressive illustration of how little loyalty matters in the NFL. He was the ultimate Bear for what seemed like forever, but the team wasn’t willing to pay him enough – even on a one year contract – to keep his around. He’s bitter about the way things ended for him in Chicago and he would like to join a contender to play at least one more season. It’s hard to say whether the Broncos could make him for him on the linebacking crew, but there’s no question Urlacher would be an affordable addition who would stir up excitement amongst fans.

Either of both of these big name free agents could wind up sporting orange and blue for the 2013 season. Neither of them is likely to sign with a team until after the draft in late April so stay tuned.
