Twitter: Nugs fan asks Ty Lawson about his hangover, gets response

Colin D. | March 19, 2013

It still never ceases to amaze me that professional athletes engage fans directly via Twitter as often as they do. NBA players are far and away the most prone toward it and we saw another example of that come across the @SouthStands303 timeline this morning.

A woman we follow, @Brooke_Cale, teased Ty Lawson (@TyLawson3) about his “illness” last night by Tweeting: “Yeah! Hangover, I mean…illness all gone???

Lawson responded with: “lol I see u finally @ somebody on the team… Alot of ppl on the team have some choice words for u since u talk alot of shyt” and followed that with “fair weather fans are the worst”.

It’s all in good fun, I suppose. I have had my own exchanges with various players over the past couple of years. Still, I have to wonder why players at the highest levels of their sport would bother to engage fans in this way. It’s really a no-win proposition for them.

Wilson Chandler expressed his desire to be traded by the Nuggets eleven days prior to the NBA trade deadline. Now he’s still here … but everyone knows he would rather not be.

Teams spend a small fortune on advertising and public relations but one Tweet can unwind it instantly.
