The Rockies eviscerated the Mets in front of zero television audience

Colin D. | April 19, 2013

Break up the Rockies! Eleven to three? They’re what? Eleven and four now? Are you kidding me? Another sweep? Well, this certainly was unforeseen. In fact, it was unseen altogether in the local market.

Unless you happen to have been in attendance at Coors Field on this frigid Thursday afternoon to watch the Rockies pummel the New York Mets you could not have watched the game. Root Sports Rocky Mountain is somehow committed to air only 150 of Colorado’s 162 games again this season. It’s in their contract.

The reason why seems mysterious. You would think that a regional sports network that basically covers only the Rockies in the summer months would want to air every single game. You would also assume that fans would demand it. It stands to reason that not a great many people would have been able to watch today, anyhow, since most folks would have been at work during the broadcast. But there are some folks, folks like me for instance, who flipped on their sets hoping to catch a few innings only to find the Dan Patrick douchnozzle hour on instead.

Luckily, Root’s contract is almost up. Other networks will be in the bidding to air Rockies games in 2014. Hopefully, whoever lands the deal will commit to broadcasting the games. All 162 of them. They should bring back Tom Helmer while they’re at it.
