Like most of Colorado, we at the Fancast have a love / hate relationship with the Denver Post’s sneering, cackling goon, Mark Kiszla. Today we love him for his column about Chauncey Billups. READ MORE
In his column that ran yesterday, Tuesday, January 11, Denver Post sports columnist, Mark Kiszla “Kiszed” all over the Denver Nuggets for their handling of the Carmelo Anthony trade and their inclusion of hometown hero, Chauncey Billups, in the negotiations. It’s an excellent column. We’re still wiping the Kisz from the corners of our mouths.
The fact is, ‘Melo never has never really been one of us, a Coloradan. Chauncey Billups is. He’s a pillar of the community; a Denver kid who attended C.U. and made it big on the National stage before returning to play out the rest of his career in a Nuggets uniform. Billups is more than a fan favorite. He’s one of us. Now, thanks to ‘Melo’s selfish desire to get the hell out of Dodge, we’re going to lose Chauncey and Chauncey is going to be forced to leave Denver.
“Basketball is going to be basketball. I’m going to play that anywhere. But the family part is the most difficult situation,” said Billups, whom we’ve watched grow up from a phenom at George Washington High School to a father with a wife and three daughters. “My girls are old enough that they know. They hear fans saying, ‘We’re going to miss you.’ “
Kisza tugs at our heart strings and also makes us question the competence of the Nuggets’ front office. Great job, you sneering, cackling goon.
