The NFL announced a new policy today, placing restrictions on the type and size of bags that fans can now bring into stadiums around the country. These new guidelines will go into effect starting this preseason.
The new rules state that only small bags made of plastic, vinyl or PVC are permitted, with the maximum size to not exceed 12”x 6”x 12”.
I get that they want to improve public safety, that’s apparent. However, there have been no known incidents within NFL stadiums and no suspicious packages reported in previous years. So what’s with the crackdown, now? Why make it a point to alienate a demographic that the NFL has supposedly been working hard to reach and increase?
All that these restrictions do is piss off a growing segment of the NFL’s loyal fan base and we all know what happens when you anger women. How do they expect folks to come to NFL stadiums and plop down their cash on concessions and merchandise when they are forced to carry it in a Ziploc?
What about feminine hygiene products? Are we supposed to parade them around in a clear baggie as well? Charming.
Let’s not forget about women and men with young children. How are they supposed to carry diapers, formula, bottles and a change of clothes? I’m thinking a cluster of four or five clear 6”x12” bags won’t exactly be easy to maneuver through the crowds on game day.
I know their rationale is probably to expedite the process of entering these stadiums. I think people would probably be alright with a little extra time to have someone check inside their bags in order keep the right to actually bring them in.
I know I would.
