The Monday Mommy: The 5 Shiny Bright Happy Spots of Broncos vs Pats

Last night’s football game was just brutal for Bronco fans. There is no way around it.
With all of the hype surrounding the matchup between the two long time rivals Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, it was bound to be a game for the record books. From the way in which it began, the Mile High City thought the game was all but done, with Denver sitting comfortably in the lead 24-0 heading into the locker room for half time.
We all knew not to count out Tom Brady and the Patriots, as history tells us so. However, it was very easy to get caught up in the score and momentum and think that the Broncos were cruising to their 10th win of the season. I’m pretty sure I do not need to tell you guys what happened next, as you wouldn’t be reading this column on South Stands Denver if you weren’t into watching sporting events, especially one as big as last night’s Broncos vs. Patriots game.
As we all sit here and lick our wounds, I thought it would be appropriate to put it all into perspective. Sure, the Broncos lost. Yes, it sucked.
However, this Denver Bronco team is worth believing in and cheering for; and here are my top five reasons why.
• The Broncos are still 9-2 – Out of 11 games played so far, Denver has come out victorious in nine of them. There are certainly a slew of teams in the NFL currently that would give anything to have that record, yet Bronco fans are not satisfied. A little perspective folks.
• The Chiefs lost yesterday – That’s right. The Defensive powerhouse Kansas City Chiefs lost at home to Denver’s fellow division rival San Diego Chargers. This benefits the Broncos in terms of playoff picture as well as placating the egos of Bronco fans.
The Week 13 matchup between The Broncos and Chiefs has bigger playoff implications than the Patriot game ever had. One wouldn’t know this by the enormous cloud of hype and overreaction that has engulfed the local sports media for the past week.
• The Offensive line looked solid – Protecting Peyton Manning is one of if not the most important priorities of this Denver Bronco football team. They’ve been getting killed by the media in the past few weeks and taking the brunt of the blame for Manning’s ankle injuries.
The patchwork O-line held up very well last night only allowing only one sack and keeping Manning’s jersey pretty darn clean.
• Knowshon ran like a rabid dog chasing a meat holding mail carrier – It is no secret that I was the only Moreno supporter coming into this season at South Stands Denver. Hopefully the guy has finally shaken his bust status once and for all. Truthfully, this whole season he has proven to be a starting NFL running back, and has bailed out Manning on more than one occasion. However, if that didn’t do enough to earn respect, then last night’s 224 rushing yards with a 6.1 average per carry effort certainly should have.
Lucky for the Broncos, his late-game injury turns out to be a deep ankle bruise and he shouldn’t be sidelined for too long. Denver needs him to balance out the offense and get things rolling when it becomes stagnant.
• The Pre Partying, Pre Weight gain Von Miller took the field – For the first time since his suspension, Miller looked like a bad-ass again. In the freezing cold, on an enormous stage, Miller was responsible for six solo tackles, two sacks, three hits on Tom Brady, and a scoop and score for a defensive touchdown.
It was phenomenal to see him flying all around the field making plays like the Von Miller of old. Hopefully his groove is officially back and we can see more of the Week 12 Miller moving forward.
Bronco fans, it’s time to put away the break-up music, take off the sweats and get back out there. It was one game that most likely has no ramifications on the rest of the season. The Broncos are a very talented football team, especially in comparison with the majority of the teams in the current NFL.
Sure, the Super Bowl occurring in an almost definite cold weather situation doesn’t exactly make anyone feel any better after last night’s performance. However, let’s just wait a bit to freak out about that.
I say we focus on the road game coming up in Week 13 at Arrowhead, who’s with me?
