The Monday Mommy: I Have Post Season Baseball Envy
“I am so tired of reading my twitter feed at night in October and seeing fans all over the country pumped about their MLB team and their various pennant races. Living vicariously through my friends that root for winning baseball teams is getting pretty old. When is it our turn to rep the purple and black in October? “

October is a difficult month for baseball fans in the Mile High City.
Colorado Rockies followers are forced to watch as other metropolitan cities enjoy and reap the benefits of post season baseball. Social Media is jammed with live tweets of the various pennant races and recaps of great playoff rallies. The tradition of post season baseball is a rich one and each city has their stories of triumphs and tragedies along the way. Whether we like them or not, stories of Bartman and Billy Buckner are retold over and over and are woven into the baseball culture.
I am wildly jealous.
Under the current regime operating at Coors Field, we will never be able to participate in these great traditions. Since their inception in 1993 they have played well enough to garner three playoff appearances: 1995, 2007 & 2009. While some optimists would think that three playoff berths is better than none, not me. It’s crap. All three of their appearances were shots in the dark. The Rockies have never been a solid team that was looked at as favorites or playoff bound.
The Monforts are cheating us all out of post season baseball. My son is only four and I have a feeling he won’t see an NLCS home game before he goes off to college if things remain the same over on Blake Street. Their blatant indifference to the actual quality of the team and disregard for the fan base is unbelievably frustrating. The good folks of Colorado deserve an ownership that is committed to winning and bringing our own rich playoff traditions to Coors Field.

Lucky for most of us, a little team known as the Denver Broncos can distract and take our minds away from the lack of October baseball year after year. Rockies fans have been so accustomed to the failure of the team that it doesn’t even turn into disappointment anymore, it is the norm. Fans head to the final games in September to get their last days of sunshine and beer at Coors Field, not to actually help the team rally for a post season run. We have been cultured to know it’s not really an option- and that just plain sucks.
I want in on the fun.
How great would it be to have our own Rockies playoff traditions and stories to be passed down from generation to generation? All we have now is the memory of that one Rocktober back in 2007 when Colorado got swept by the Red Sox. Denver is a fantastic sports town and deserves a legitimate chance at good quality baseball. Instead we are stuck with owners that refer to their bank accounts and decide that everything is working just fine.
In some sort of boycott, I have not watched one pitch of playoff baseball this post season. I do know what teams are involved and what the eventual outcomes have been, I just refuse to watch. It breaks my heart to know that it will never be happening for us at Coors Field.
For now we are stuck with Dinger and crappy pitching.
On the bright side, we will be rocking a brand new party deck. Cheers!
