Sports radio snuffs out Cuddy streak

Colin D. | July 3, 2013

When Michael Cuddyer called into his afternoon show on 102.3 ESPN yesterday afternoon, Tom Nalen told him that he feared doing radio interviews about his hitting streak would jinx it. Nalen was right.

Cuddyer did a full blown media tour on Tuesday, discussing his 27 game hitting streak and answering questions like “are you superstitious?” Well, if he wasn’t before he might be now. After calling onto sports radio stations and carrying on about his method, Cuddyer went 0-4 at the plate versus Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers and saw his hot streak snuffed out.

I blame sports radio.

It’s not the hosts who are fault. It’s the producers in the studios who should have known that their selfish need to attract listeners by reaching out to Cuddyer would snatch away the best story in Denver sports right now. They made their bed and now they have to lay in it. The hosts these producers work with now have to slog through their summer shows with one less captivating topic to touch on.

Way to go, producers.
