Rox owner finished dead last, promises “I do not believe we are a middle of the pack team”
In a letter to season ticket holders in which he oh-so-generously promised not to raise ticket prices, Rockies owner Dick Monfort brazenly stated “I do not believe we are a middle of the pack team.”
Dick’s correct. The Colorado Rockies are absolute basement dwellers. And, since the organization has already committed to making zero changes to the front office and team management, fans can expect to see more of the same in 2014. Dick and his brother Charlie are both as delusional as Charlie is inebriated. Their entire letter to season ticket holders, which I found at the Denver Post, is after the jump.

I want to begin by once again expressing our heartfelt thoughts and prayers for the thousands of Colorado residents, their families and friends who have been directly affected by the horrific floods throughout our state.
I also want to share our appreciation and congratulations to the organization’s iconic first baseman for the past 17 years. Todd Helton’s impact on this organization, the game of baseball and Rockies fans throughout the country, will never be forgotten. We will miss seeing #17 take the field and we will carry forward the images and memories he has helped create for each of us. Todd’s final game at Coors Field was a magical evening at the ballpark and we hope that you had the opportunity to be a part of it. For any of you that wish to relive that night, or view special moments and celebrate Todd’s career with photos and video content, you can click on rockies.com/thankstodd.
Before looking back at 2013, I want to look forward to next season for a moment. We will not raise season ticket prices for the 2014 season. Also, because of your positive response to the 20th Anniversary Card, the card will continue next season as a Season Ticket Holder “Loyalty Card”. We hope you will enjoy all the benefits it brings.
The foundation of our starting pitching – Jhoulys Chacin, Jorge De La Rosa and Tyler Chatwood – was a combined 38-21 with a 3.40 ERA. We have already begun the process of how to bring experience and talent to that group. We’re also excited about the strength of the minor league system with pitchers Eddie Butler and 2013 1st round pick Jonathan Gray on the horizon. Michael Cuddyer, the National League batting champion, will likely move to first base creating an opportunity to fill his position in the outfield with a big bat. We also need to improve the back end of the bullpen. Rex Brothers did well filling in for Rafael Betancourt, however it left us short in the setup role. Adam Ottavino will get an opportunity and we got a sneak preview of Chad Bettis as a starter and bullpen candidate. No matter his role, Chad will help our club.
We led the league in runs at home, but finished near the bottom on the road. The home/road issues have been well documented – perhaps over documented. No excuses, we need to find a solution to the problem.
We are still a relatively young team. Wilin Rosario and Nolan Arenado, although just in their early 20′s, are already getting national attention. DJ LeMahieu, Josh Rutledge, Charlie Blackmon and Corey Dickerson have the talent to be good everyday Major League players. They just need experience.
I will leave you with this – I do not believe we are a middle of the pack team; we are right around the corner from being really good with the return of our three All-Stars along with the young players mentioned above. Our organization is committed to doing everything in our power to bring you, the greatest fans in the world, a championship. We will not rest until we do it.
We will do our best to keep you informed during the off season. As always, we want you to know how much we appreciate your support and passion for the Colorado Rockies.
Best Regards,
Dick Monfort
