Rockies lose three in a row, everybody gives up on them (again)
It’s becoming a weekly tradition in Colorado: give up on the Rockies then, later in the week, get all excited about them again. This team, which everyone was expecting to be a bottom feeder entering the 2013 season, is proving to be a wild one to watch.
The Rockies are currently in the dead center of the NL West standings, ahead of the Padres and Dodgers and trailing (by one game) the Giants and (by three games) the Diamond Backs. They’re right in the thick of things by all accounts yet people seem determined to bury them despite it still not being June. An embarrassing loss to the 15-win Astros on Memorial Day on the heels of a series loss in San Fran was enough to get the nay sayers saying nay again, even after the Rockies took two straight series at home just last week.
We don’t know what these Rockies are just yet. It’s definitely too early to give up them. With three more against the lowly Astros scheduled for this week, followed by a home series with the Dodgers, there’s a good chance that come Saturday we will be singing their praises again. Then, on Monday, we can get back to burying them.
