Rockies kick fans hard in the groin with inexplicable loss to SF
Stupid Rockies.
With the score six-zip good guys after three innings everything was looking good last night. The Rox had six runs on seven hits. Colorado’s bats were smoking hot and Matt Cain, the Giants’ ace pitcher, seemed to have no answers. The Coors Field faithful were on their feet and it felt like the home team was well on its way to closing the narrow gap in the standings between themselves and their division-leading opponents.
Then the fourth inning happened. By the time that disgusting frame was over the Colorado lead was reduced to one run, 6-5, and the sense that they were going to let one get away began to build. Sure enough they did, ultimately coughing up a 1,000th straight loss to the Giants 8-6. The Rockies slid to just one game over .500 at 21 wins and 20 losses and lost ground not only to the Giants but to the Diamond Backs.
Had the Rockies won last night they would have emerged 22-19, one game back from the Giants at 23-18 and the D Backs with the same record. The race at the top of the division would have remained tight with the Rox having the opportunity to be tied for the lead again after tonight. Some losses are just a kick in the groin.
The good news is that the Rockies still have a huge opportunity in front of them over the next six days, with three games ahead against both the Giants and Arizona. The bad news is that Chacin has already had his start for the week and nobody really has any confidence that the Rockies can play with these teams.
