“These Denver radio personalities, along with the sports anchors from the local television stations, Drew “Sea Lion” Soicher, Tom Helmer, Raul Martinez, etc, make up a small sliver of the 5,000 or so total talking heads assembled in the Big Apple to cover the Broncos’ sixth appearance in the big game.”

It has been fifteen years since the last time the Broncos went to the Super Bowl. The wait since the last trip seemed infinite for the fans and for the Denver media alike. Denver, after all, went to five Super Bowls during a thirteen year span preceding this long drought.
Now that the Orange and Blue have returned to the big game the Denver sports media has followed them to the East coast in droves.
104.3 the Fan dispatched every personality from every one of the stations local shows. The Fan Morning show is there with Mike Evans, Nate Lundy and Vic Lombardi (who is also representing channel 4). Sandy Clough is there, along with Drew Goodman and Scott Hastings and, of course Big Al and the MVP of the Denver media corps, Dmac.
Mile High Sports brought thirteen people to New York including James Merilatt and Doug Ottewill (the bosses), Adam Kinney, Reed Marks, Lance Britton, Eric Goodman and the Press Box crew, Peter Burns, Mark Kiszla, Oren Lomena and Brandon Krisztal. The beautiful Robin Carlin made the trip, too, assuring that MHS gets the best interview opportunities.
102.2 ESPN sent the smallest contingent of the Denver radio stations. Only Les Shapiro and Charles Johnson made the trip.

This morning the Broncos faced the assembled media for their portion of the event known as “Media Day”. The Seahawks are enduring the same as I type this. Media Day is pretty silly. It resembles a comic con convention as closely as it does a sporting event. Various media outlets such as MTV send folks to grab as much attention for themselves as possible. It’s a side show. The more serious interviews will happen on Wednesday and Thursday when each team has a 75-minute media session scheduled.
For the folks in the Denver sports media tasked with covering the Broncos this is as fun as their jobs ever get. It’s easy to assume that Denver will get back to the big game really soon – possibly even next year. But the long drought we all endured before this trip is proof that these opportunities can be few and far between. The players are told time and time again to relish this trip because it may be the last for each of them. For Denver’s radio and TV personalities the same holds true. This trip to New York is special.
