There are sports radio talk show hosts in Denver who think that Peter Burns is lucky. There’s a perception that he is young and good looking and that he has been in the right places at the right times to launch his meteoric rise within the Denver sports media. Burns’ charisma is, in the minds of these envious sorts, the secret to his success. It’s difficult for them to accept that Peter Burns outworks them.

Since relocating from Texas to Colorado Peter Burns has quickly established his voice. He has partnered with various other personalities and created a handful of radio shows, ultimately ending up creating the Press Box, a morning sports news and pop-culture show featuring veteran Denver Post columnist Mark Kiszla and sports radio stalwarts Oren Lomena and Brandon Krizstal which airs on Mile High Sports Radio and is simulcast through the Denver Post’s web site from 7-9 AM.

Now the tireless Burns is taking his show into syndication. The first step: Saturdays noon to two on 104.3 the Fan.

Now, instead of working five days a week, Kiszla and crew will be working six…or …make that seven.

In addition to their normal Mile High Sports weekday time slot Burns and crew will be doing Saturdays on the Fan as well as doing Broncos Sunday pre-game on the Post site throughout the Broncos’ playoff run. And, if the Broncos go to the Super Bowl, they plan on arranging a “College Game Day type” set in New York for covering the Orange and Blue’s quest for a title.

Burns is striking while the iron is hot. The way he sees it there will be time to rest when the Broncos are through winning.

After that he plans to continue trying to shoehorn the Press Box into other cities. “We are already talking to stations in several other markets.” Burns told me.  “The idea is to keep on growing, never stop.”

Peter Burns is walking proof that people create their own luck. By working tirelessly to improve his show and to create opportunities for himself and his colleagues he’s providing a blue print for finding success in sports radio.
