The South Stands annual NFL Pickoff VS the Spread rolls into week five with a tight grouping at the top of the contest and one with one player, our Buddy Snyder, flagging badly.
Can Snyder pull back to the pack? It’s a marathon, not a sprint. That’s what Snyder is hoping, anyway.

Buffalo @ Cleveland (-3.5)
Everybody said that the Browns were tanking the season when they traded Richardson, but the feisty Clevelanders have won two straight and show no signs of quitting. In the lousy AFC North they could even make the playoffs! Nobody circles the wagons like the Buffalo Bills, though. They come into Cleveland on Thursday night.

Tennessee VS Kansas City (-3)
It’s a darn shame that Jake Locker suffered an injury just as he started to hit his stride last Sunday, but Ryan Fitzpatrick is the Titans’ reality now. This week they host the streaking Chiefs in an AFC match-up that could potentially trigger a downhill spiral for the Titans.

Baltimore @ Miami (-3)
The Phish were exposed on Monday night in New Orleans and now, on a short week, they look to get back on track against the Ravens. Meanwhile, Baltimore finds its self in the worst division in football and with a real shot at an easy playoff berth.

Jacksonville @ St. Louis (-11.5)
Hey look! The Rams are favored against somebody. Amazing. By 11.5 no less. The Jaguars are just that bad.

New England @ Cincinnati (-1.5)
The Bengals were America’s darlings after Hard Knocks, but they’ve taken some knocks of their own in the early part of the 2013 season. Andy Dalton is beginning to resemble Matt Schaub – a QB who can’t get it done. This week will be a big test for the kitties with Tom Brady and the banged-up Patriots coming to town.

Indianapolis VS Seattle (-3)
The Seahawks pay a visit to their second AFC South city in two weeks. In week four the birds barely slipped past the Texans. This week they confront Andrew Luck and the Colts at the house that Peyton built.

Detroit @ Green Bay (-7)
The Packers return from the bye to face their division rivals in the Lions who have been surprisingly good on both sides of the ball this season. Lambeau is likely to be rocking pretty hard for this one.

New Orleans @ Chicago (PK)
The Saints are dominant again with their coaching staff back in place. They’re second only to Seattle in terms of Super Bowl buzz. This week they head to the Windy City to take on Jay Cutler and the error-prone Bears. Vegas has this one as a pick ‘em, which essentially favors the Saints.

Philadelphia @ NY Giants (-2)
It’s now or never for the 0-4 Giants. They can’t afford another loss. They host the Eagles, a division rival, in an early must-win.

Arizona VS Carolina (-2)
The Panthers are tanned, rested and ready coming off the bye. Cam and Co truck to the desert in week four to face Carson Palmer and the Cardinals, who are slight home dogs in this one.

Oakland VS San Diego (-4.5)
Don’t look now, but the AFC West may not be crappy. The Chargers have choked away a couple games late but could easily be 4-0 along with Denver and KC. Alas, they’re 2-2 and heading north for a week five tilt with Oakland who will have rookie QB Terrell Pryor back.

Dallas VS Denver (-7.5)
The Broncos are favored at Big D by more than a TD – and why not? The average margin of Broncos victories this season has been 22 points. The Cowboys are favored to win the NFC East, but certainly not this game.

Houston @ San Francisco (-6.5)
Folks were quick to crown the ‘Niners during the pre-season, but reality has begun to set in as Colin Kaepernick has been arguable worse than Alex Smith, who was shipped to KC in the off-season. Houston lost a heart-breaker at home last week and now faces a big challenge at Candlestick.

NY Jets @ Atlanta (-10)
The Falcons have chance to start turning their season around on Monday night when the Jets come to town. But NY’s defense is pretty darn spectacular.
