Orange Colored Glasses: Bye, bye Mr. Bolo Tie.

Ding dong, the witch is dead. The darling of the national sports media, the smug, sneering, bolo-tie wearing Philip Rivers has been sent home for the off-season. Thank goodness.

Oh, man was I tired of hearing about that idiot and how his crappy Chargers had won five in a row – INCLUDING A GAME IN *GASP* DENVER! Screw that idiot. He played like crap on Sunday. He managed some garbage time throws to Keenan Allen late in the game but he was sacked, rattled and rolled all night by the Broncos. He didn’t even complete a single pass to a wide receiver until the second half.

Game over. Season over. Go Home Rivers.

Tomorrow will be for anticipating the Patriots. This beautiful sun-shiney Denver day is for enjoying a Broncos win.

24-17 was a closer final score than it should have been. The Broncos were the better team on Sunday by far wider margin than just seven points. They completely snuffed out the San Diego running game and prevented Rivers from having any success through the air until the fourth quarter, when San Diego scored all their points. It was one heck of a game for Denver’s defense – a unit that has been subjected to much criticism this season. Rivers was sacked four times to Manning’s zero.

Not only was Philip Rivers finally sent home, but the monkey that rode on the backs of the Denver Broncos for the past twelve months was finally gotten off. That shocking loss to the Ravens is one that we can all put behind us now. The Broncos are going to the AFC Championship game. They will have made it further than they did last year or the year before and that is a huge relief here in Broncos Country. No matter what happens now we can feel better about having gotten over at least one hump.

Sunday, January 12th was a glorious day to be a Broncos fan and today is just as sweet. The weather is as perfect as it gets in January and there’s a light-hearted feeling in the air. Enjoy it. Drink it in. This is a rare gem of a feeling – one that only four NFL cities of thirty-two have today. We’re on football cloud nine. And Philip Rivers is on the golf course.
