No overstating the importance of this win.

Colin D. | November 15, 2010

It was a fun-filled Orange Sunday at Invesco. Everything changed – for now.

It would be easy to over-react to today’s big win at Invesco.   The way the Broncos eviscerated the Kansas City Chiefs,  fans may be suddenly feeling that they have a chance of making something special out of the 2010 season.  They don’t.  The Broncos are still in deep hole in the AFC west basement and they will stay there.  This win was nothing but a little lotion in the basket of a failed division campaign.  The Chargers will remind us all of that next Monday night.

Still, there is no overstating the importance of this win to the organization and to the fan base.  Mile High Magic is back, if only temporarily.  Dark as things have been since that black Sunday three weeks ago on which the Raiders scored nearly 60 in our house, it’s a huge relief to see a glimmer of Orange once again.  We all have something to cheer about.

Had things turned out differently in week 10 we would all wake up tomorrow to talk of Josh McDaniels being on the hot seat.  That conversation has been mercifully postponed.  The reality of the situation is that, love him or hate him, McDaniels is here to stay – at least through 2011.

For a week we can be hopeful again.  For a week we can pound our chests and tease our Chiefs fan friends.  For a week we can wear our Broncos gear with our heads held high.  It’s a good feeling.

This team won’t win more than 5 games.  It won’t sniff the playoffs.  Today’s win was big enough, though, to pull it out of the conversation where the worst teams in the league are concerned.  It  was big enough to create hope for the future.  Now we can talk about small changes; tweaks here and tweaks there, as opposed to a complete redesign of the Denver Broncos.  And they can, too.
