My Nuggets

“FINALLY my Denver Nuggets have stood up for themselves and knocked the spoiled little brats from Oklahoma City right on their butts”

Yes, I stole Vic Lombardi’s trademark. After every Nuggets win he Tweets “my Nuggets”.

There really is no other phrase that better describes how jacked I am after what I just witnessed.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are like those spoiled little rich cousins you can’t stand.

Unlike us, their fans never had to endure the horrors of Bernie Bickerstaff and Nicholas Tskitishvili … or the embarrassment of being the laughing stock of the entire league.

For too long, your sniveling little cousins –Kevin and Russell – have had their way with you. They’ve pushed you around, bullied you and made fun.

One day, you grew a pair of balls and you said “ENOUGH”. Finally, you stood up for yourself and busted those cousins in their mouths, dropping them right on their asses.

You might be the cousin who went to public school and you might not drive the brand new BMW, but, by god, none of that matters now, because you dropped those little brats right on their behinds.

Those spoiled little rich cousins can’t make fun of you anymore because they don’t want to get a stain on their too small Hollister t-shirts or holes in their skinny Abercrombie jeans.

Tonight, MY Denver Nuggets proved that they are sick and tired of hearing about how freaking wonderful the Oklahoma City Thunder are.

FINALLY my Denver Nuggets have stood up for themselves and knocked the spoiled little brats from Oklahoma City right on their butts and it doesn’t look like the Thunder know what hit them.

I knew the Nuggets were going to win tonight.

I had absolutely no reason to believe it. All the Nuggets have ever done is let me down – just like I’m sure all they’ve ever done is let you down.

But you know what? It’s starting to seem like they don’t want to let us down anymore, Denver. We finally have a basketball team that’s not going to take crap from nobody.

With a franchise record thirteen (and counting) straight wins the Nuggets are starting to make me believe they can do things that no other team in franchise history has done before. Call me crazy but I honestly believe that this team has a legitimate shot at making it to the NBA Finals. And no, I’m sober – nice try though.

Over the past few weeks – Denver has defeated the Thunder, Lakers, Clippers, Grizzlies, Bulls, Hawks, and others. This ain’t no fluke, Denver. This team is for real and you better jump on the bandwagon before it becomes obvious that you jumped on the bandwagon. After all, no one likes a bandwagon fan.

When the Nuggets beat the Thunder in late January, I sensed something different developing with this Nuggets team opposed to previous Nuggets teams. And when Ty Lawson hit the game-winning shot against OKC on March 1st – I knew that this Nuggets team was about to surprise the hell out of a lot of people.

To be the best, you have to beat the best. And the Nuggets are beating the best teams in the NBA despite not having a single all-star.

I’ll take this roster full of team guys and a coach who has kicked cancer’s ass multiple times over any other team in the NBA, including the one that plays down in South Beach. This team is making me believe crazy things are possible and I don’t care if I’m wrong – I’m just going to sit back and enjoy the ride because it’s finally fun to be a Nuggets fan.

Let’s face it, Denver – it’s us against the world.

Our teams have never gotten the respect or recognition that they deserve because they don’t play on a coast or have superstars that marry supermodels. That’s why we love our teams so much – because our teams are a reflection of us.

The Nuggets are a bunch of fun loving and non-egotistical overachievers. Nobody gave them a shot at winning tonight and nobody gave them a shot at being any good this year. Supposedly – they couldn’t compete with Oklahoma City because of Kev and Russ. Well, let me tell you mother truckers something – the Nuggets just won the regular season series against the Thunder. How’s that for knocking the bully out?

I’m a proud native Coloradan. I try to remain objective when I talk about Colorado sports teams. However, I’m failing to remain objective when it comes to the Nuggets. You see – this is my team.

I’ve been around since the MicNichols days and I remember Mount Mutumbo and I learned to love the Thuggets. And last year, I nearly lost it when the effing Lakers pulled it out against us in Game 7. Now it’s our time.

Look no further than those spoiled little rich cousins on the ground. I’m telling you, the Nuggets will be playing in June and I’m starting to let myself get excited about this damn team. My Nuggets.
