Your Denver Nuggets have a chance to truly turn the corner tonight.
After a failed February and a morose March, the team is off to a nice start in April. A win tonight would make them 6-3 on the month. A loss, however, would leave them with a record only slightly better than .500.
They can prove something – not just their fans but to themselves – by defeating the same team twice in two days. That’s never easy in the NBA. The Houston Rockets have been breathing down the Nugs’ necks. Here’s a chance to leave them in the dust and all but secure a playoff spot.
Beyond simply sliding into the post-season, the Nuggets need to avoid a first-round series with the OKC Thunder or the San Antonio Spurs. Either of those teams would make short work of the Nuggets early. If, however, Denver can build a head of steam versus a lesser first-round opponent and win a series they might have the confidence they need to defeat one of the West’s elite squads in the second round.
This game in Houston tonight is a huge test. The result will say a lot about how serious the team is about improving and advancing.
They seem to be developing pride. With Danilo Galinari finally healthy enough to play they are more confident, too. The have something to build around.
But if they lose tonight they lose momentum once again. It’s been one step forward, two steps back for the Nuggets all season. Can they take another step forward? We will find out at 6pm.
