It’s time for the Nuggets to treat their home fans to a win.

There’s been plenty of talk about “tanking” around Denver over the past several weeks. The Nuggets have complied with the notion of crashing and burning in the hopes that the ping pong balls fall their way post-season. They have been downright awful, especially with Ty Lawson and Wilson Chandler out of the lineup. It’s been hard to watch.
Tonight the Nuggets are at home to host the Dallas Mavericks.
Ty and Wilson are back in the lineup and both seem to be feeling fine. Against the Timberwolves the other night Lawson threw up a triple double and made his team mates look far better, too. Chandler is still struggling to find his stroke but that’s nothing new. He throws the basketball up enough that he scores despite his inefficiency. Randy Foye is a different player when he’s not running the point. He gives Denver scoring punch as a shooting guard. Evan Fournier is streaky but can really light up the scoreboard when he’s “on”.
Dallas is a playoff contender but nothing really all that special. The Mavs are a quality opponent that is beatable and Nuggets fans deserve to see the blue and yellow win tonight.
The Nuggets are at no risk of suddenly becoming a playoff team so picking up a victory here and there can’t hurt them as far as the draft is concerned. Losses will come naturally enough to them that they don’t need to do any “tanking”. They’ll get creamed regularly regardless of how hard they try to win. This is a lost season. Still, folks enjoy attending games at Pespi Center and they deserve the right to feel like they might actually witness a Denver victory.
The Nuggets came close to beating Minnesota two nights ago, although it took a monster late run to get them back into the game. It would be nice to see them come out tonight against Dallas and play toe-to-toe with them from buzzer to buzzer. There’s no reason that they should not be able to.
Dallas has ten or so wins on the Nuggets at this point and is slogging for a 6th-8th seed in the playoffs. It’s not a squad that threatens to go very far. Still, the Mavs are a nice measuring stick for Brian Shaw to size his squad up with.
Tonight the Nuggets should come out determined to separate themselves from the ‘Sixers and the Bucks of the world and regain a modicum of respectability. More importantly they should demonstrate to Denver fans that they might reward them with a win every now and then if they make the trek to the arena to watch a game.
That’s all that’s left to play for this season.
