Hey, Peyton. Time to stick it to your ex.

Without a doubt, #18 has been dreading this road trip since he signed with Denver. You don’t think Peyton Manning, who knows everything about there is to know about football, didn’t know he was going to have to face his ex in the 2013-2014 season? This is going to be tough, don’t let Peyton fool you.

Day after day, week after week and press conference after press conference – Peyton Manning is professional and factual; but that’s not how he left Indianapolis. No, Peyton was crying like we all cried the first we watched Old Yeller. He didn’t want to leave Indianapolis. And now, I don’t think he wants to go back. Can you blame him?

Lucas Oil Stadium is known as “The House That Peyton Built”; but Peyton was dumped by the Colts and Jim Irsay on March 7th, 2012. And while Denver welcomed and embraced Peyton Manning with open arms, we aren’t Indianapolis. Peyton loved Indianapolis; he’s learning to love Denver. And yes, Peyton won’t ever come out and admit it, but, he saw himself retiring as a Colt.

John Elway might not have a Plan B and Peyton Manning is definitely Elway’s Plan A…but Denver was Peyton’s Plan B. And before you go and hate on me for telling you that we are Peyton’s morning after pill, just look back and remember Manning’s introductory press-conference at Dove Valley in 2012. Everyone wore orange; everyone but Peyton that is. He wore a tie that had resemblance to Colts colors.

Manning isn’t over his ex and he doesn’t want to go back and see his ex. He doesn’t want to see the fans in #18 jerseys nor does he want to endure a pregame ceremony honoring his accolade filled career with the Colts. Over the past year-and-a-half, he’s been able to keep Indianapolis out of sight and out of mind. Not anymore though. He’s going to have to face it all.

He’ll fly in, go to a hotel, get on a bus, walk in via the visitor’s entrance and get dressed in the visitors locker room. All of this will be new and unfamiliar; and yet, all too old and familiar. He’s going to have to stand at midfield and receive the cheers and, somehow, he’ll have to hold his emotions in check, or at least he’ll attempt to. Kickoff will come and he’ll have to stick it to his ex, the ex that he never saw life without. The ex who dumped him.

Oh, Peyton, this isn’t going to be fun…

It’s going to be a rough week for Peyton Williams Manning, son of Archie and Olivia and brother to Cooper and Eli. Once the interviews and emotion filled highlight videos and tributes end, the game will start and human-nature will take over and Peyton will realize what John Elway has told him all along – when Colts grow up they become Broncos.
Hurry, hurry Peyton. It’s time to stick it to your ex.
