Elway: there ought to be a statue
“And given Elway’s success as both a quarterback and executive – I wonder if on the day when that statue gets unveiled whether he will be wearing a football jersey or a business suit.”

John Elway does not mess around. I think we can all agree on that, right?
The Comeback Kid took over as vice president of football operations for the Broncos in February of 2011. At the time, the franchise was at its lowest point since the early 1970’s – and there was little reason to believe that it was going to get better before it got worse for the Broncos. And then Elway began to rebuild the Broncos – piece by piece, the Broncos began to improve. Looking back, it was clear that Elway had a plan from the moment he took over running the Broncos.
Make no mistake about it – John Elway is the Denver Broncos. The Broncos are a part of Elway and Elway is a part of the Broncos. There is no getting around that. Elway will not accept the Broncos not being a contender. He’s always been too much of a competitor to accept losing. And that will never change.
A year ago, Tim Tebow was the quarterback of the Denver Broncos. When the Indianapolis Colts released Peyton Manning, no one gave the Broncos a chance at signing the greatest regular season quarterback in NFL history. However, we all, stupidly, underestimated, John Elway. Number 7 convinced Manning that he could be a part of something special in Denver. Without a doubt, Elway sold Manning on coming to Denver. If not for Elway, PFM would not be wearing the orange and blue.
Not only has Elway turned around and rescued the Broncos from the wilderness of obscurity – he has brought the magic back to Mile High. This will always be John Elway’s football team and it’s fitting that he is once again holding the reins for the Denver Broncos.
Last week, Elway struck again and pulled off some of the top free-agent signings in the NFL this off-season. If not for Elvis Dumervil’s agent and “Faxgate”, the Broncos would have had the perfect week of NFL free agency signings.
Oddly enough, there is not a statue of John Elway outside Mile High Stadium. Someday there will be. And given Elway’s success as both a quarterback and executive – I wonder if on the day when that statue gets unveiled whether he will be wearing a football jersey or a business suit.
Relax Denver – you’re in good shape with Elway running the show.
