Drew Soicher’s bad joke pissed the Broncos off pretty good

We aren’t Drew Soicher fans. That’s been pretty well documented. Still, Soicher and his friend the sea lion have remained in the good graces of the people who matter in town despite his lack of professionalism and dedication to his craft. The anchor has managed to keep his prime gig at 9 News thanks to his favorable “Q rating”, generated mostly by female viewers who find Soicher’s sophomoric banter refreshingly entertaining. He’s easily the least respected and laziest member of the Denver sports media but that’s OK by the folks at 9 News so long as he continues to draw viewers.
The station values Soicher for his popularity. They probably value their relationship with the Denver Broncos even more, though. 9 News is, after all, the “official” Broncos station. They are the ones that get to visit the locker room first after games and get the best access inside Dove Valley. But last night their sports anchor made a dreadful mistake that put 9 News’ relationship with the Broncos in jeopardy. It could potentially even cost Soicher his job. He made a bad joke about Alzheimer’s disease.
The audio of Soicher’s ugly uttering was provided here by the Press Box show with Mark Kiszla and Peter Burns who, along with co-hosts Oren Lomena and Brandon Krisztal discussed it this morning. The hosts were disgusted by Soicher’s joke which went like this: “so much talk about Alzheimer’s at Broncos training camp that I kept checking my roster to see if that’s a new player on the team.”
It seems like this time Soicher’s silliness finally got the best of him. He is certain to be disciplined by the station and likely to blasted by the Broncos. He could even lose his privileges at Dove Valley, not that he visits as often as an anchor should anyhow. Really, it’s time to replace Soicher altogether.
