Dez Bryant has been involved in more random, talked about controversies than the hit ABC show Scandal.
Bryant has made the news for everything from academic fraud at Oklahoma State, to refusing rookie training camp rituals with the Cowboys, to being a whiny self-centered ball monger. We also can’t forget about the incident with his mother that involved alleged assault. The guy has talent, there is no denying that.
Since his rookie season in 2010, Bryant has accumulated 252 receptions for 3,620 yards and 35 touchdowns. His on and off-field antics are a distraction, but certainly not the reason the Cowboys are somewhat of a mess. I understand the passion; no one wants to lose, especially at the professional level. However, Bryant following in the footsteps of former emotional Dallas wideout Terrell Owens is just not a good look.
Dez Bryant has expressed his desire to be the best receiver in the league, along the vein of Calvin Johnson. In order to make that happen, he needs to shut his mouth, put in the work and make it happen on the field. Perhaps one of the first steps toward greatness is to repair his image.
Last night, Bryant made Christmas come early for some unsuspecting shoppers at a Dallas area Wal-Mart. He was there to purchase the new Sony Playstation 4 on the night of the new gaming system’s release. Whether it was a PR move, or just a whim, Bryant purchased a PS4 for several other patron’s who were there in line. The system retails for a little more than $500. Merry Christmas, indeed.
Bryant has boasted on Twitter about his Madden skills in the past and it looks like he will have some new very happy folks to play with. Now if he could just turn his generosity into hard work on the field, Cowboys fans could potentially have something to cheer about. Well, that and the fact they play in one of the worst divisions in the NFL this season. The Cowboys, despite the distractions and end of game meltdowns, are actually tied at the top of the crappy NFC East at 5-5 with the Eagles.
If only the Broncos could get so lucky. They would be sitting with a comfortable, somewhat insurmountable, three-game lead just chilling, awaiting the playoffs.
