Every NFL team rosters three, if not four quarterbacks.
But, when Mike Klis of the Denver Post published a storyonline today stating that the Broncos would bring in two more behind Tim Tebow, Twitter exploded. The headline? “John Fox says Broncos likely to add two QB’s to compete with Tebow”
Of course the Broncos are going to bring in quarterbacks.
They will probably draft at least one and sign at least one through free agency. Everybody knew that before last season was even over. Adam Weber and Tim Tebow are the only two still on the roster. It only stands to reason that the team will need to come up with more warm bodies somehow.
Still, Klis’ story promted this…
CBS Sports: Tim Tebow will not get a free ride to be the Broncos starting QB in 2012.
…and a slew of similar Tweets by media types and bloggers all over the country.
It’s going to be a really, really long off-season if, every time the Broncos talk to a quarterback prospect, people speculate as to how it affects Tebow.
If he doesn’t have to compete for the job it’s a very bad thing. The team is going to fill empty roster spots and, if they are lucky, someone will come in here to put pressure on Timmy pre-season.
In other words, nothin’ to see here, folks.
The way Twitter reacted to the Klis story you have to wonder if people prefer that the Broncos not even bother watching quarterback drills at the combine.
