Dear John: Captain Bronco is back, talking Reidy off the ledge

Colin D. | May 29, 2014

Our own curmudgeonly podcast host, John Reidy is still stinging from the Broncos’ big loss. He has packed away all his Broncos gear, hidden his Wheaties boxes and turned his attentions to the sports of summertime in hope of killing the pain.

Our dear friend Captain Bronco wants Reidy back on the Broncos bandwagon. The following is this weeks open letter to John, the second in a series.

Dear John,

It’s been a week since I last wrote you. Since then Broncos Country (it’s big headed of me to write for ALL Broncos fans, but it’s the internet so why not) still hasn’t heard from you. It’s my duty at this juncture to continue the campaign to bring you back. This week we aren’t going to focus on “disappointment” though, this week we talk about EXCITEMENT.

Sure last week we talked about a few key moments that all of us in Broncos Country know very well. “The Drive”, playoff victories, Super Bowl wins, but those are something we all have in common. In order to bring this around it needs to be personal. We need to talk about how MY Broncos got YOU EXCITED (yes it is the internet, you read “excited”, but this isn’t a bathhouse and I’m not going there). The beauty of the internet and you being part of the South Stands Fancast there’s lots of material to pull from.

Let’s talk about one game in particular, Monday Night Football October 15, 2012. I remember it vividly, I was escorting 25 Marines to watch our Broncos take on the Chargers in San Diego (you know it means “whales vagina” in German?). The Chargers were routing MY Broncos 24-0 at halftime, however in true Broncos fashion we have one of the GREATEST COMEBACKS IN MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL HISTORY!! Coming back to kick sand in Philip “Cry Me A” Rivers face and diffuse the “Bolts” 35-24.

Does it jog your memory? It should. You sir were just as motivated as I and the rest of Broncos Country that night. I point specifically to this tweet the following day:

Screen Shot 2014-05-28 at 11.54.47 AM

You see that’s true “EXCITEMENT.” You recognize the emotional roller coaster the game put you through. Telling Broncos Country to “power through” and “comeback” just like the Broncos. You then end it with a capitalized “GO” followed by an exclamation point! That sir is EXCITEMENT! Incase you forgot, go back and listen to yourself on that weeks podcast episode. I did, you, Colin, Scott and the rest of Boone’s Tavern were joyous, and glowing with the shower of orange and blue Bronco goodness that had just rained down upon us that evening.

That’s not the only example either. What about the EXCITEMENT at handing “Wacco” Flacco and the Ravens their feathers kicking off the 2013 season? Especially, after the NFL plastered Sports Authority and downtown Denver with Flacco’s ugly face. Why did that win bring us such pleasure? Because we lost in overtime to a Ravens team we should have beat in 2012. Do I need to point the level of obscene level of EXCITEMENT we felt beating the Patriots before going to the Super Bowl? Nothing makes me laugh harder then Brandon Perna addressing it on this episode of “That’s Good Broncos”.

The point to all this is that OUR Broncos provide us A LOT of EXCITEMENT!! You sir are, and have been a part it. We all have! EXCITEMENT comes after DISAPPOINTMENT (see what I did there). Come back John Reidy, turn that frown upside down. Our Broncos are going to provide A LOT more EXCITEMENT in 2014. So it’s TIME TO RIDE, because in Broncos Country we are all UNITED IN ORANGE!

Mile High Salute!

Captain Bronco
