D-Mac thinks Rockies fans are Dbags
We love Colorado. You don’t? Go back to where you’re from.
This article is in response to D-Mac’s article on Mile High Sports this morning.
Some people are insufferable.
You know the type; complaining the weather’s too hot in the summer, too cold in the winter, that their wife doesn’t cook for them, and when she does, her cooking sucks.
These are not Coloradans.
Coloradans adapt; we’ve long been tempered by the quickly changing weather and the changing culture that comes with shocking travesties. We don’t sit back, whine and moan. We get up, come together, dust ourselves off and keep going.
We’ve become strengthened by suffering through blizzards, lending a helping hand to neighbors and strangers alike.
We’ve also had to endure years of losing when it comes to our professional sports teams—out-of-towners may not know the Broncos were one of the worst football teams around in their beginning—yet, we support our teams through thick and thin.
It’s why the Broncos have the third longest home sellout streak in the NFL, which began back in the 70s. It’s also why, after crying in our collective beers for years, the success of our beloved Broncos, Nuggets, Rockies and Avalanche bring us together like nothing else.
We’ve become emboldened as the shining star of the Rocky Mountain region and through a relentless East Coast media bias.
True Coloradans know much of our identity comes with being sports fans, it’s why we can’t stay away from the ballparks.
These out-of-towners will try to tell you Colorado Rockies fans make them sick because they don’t know baseball and they don’t go to Coors Field to watch the game. Coloradans know exactly how Coors revitalized LoDo, and continues to dump truckloads of cash into the local economy, and if it’s the cool place to go get a beer, that’s fine with us.
But to say Rockies fans don’t know baseball is to paint with too broad a brush, it’s stereotypical and it’s plain dumb.
Rockies fans aren’t perfect, but to believe they’re not intelligent is ridiculous. Growing up a fan since 1993, I’ve been witness to tormentingly bad baseball, and some good baseball as well from Colorado’s team. Of course, there’s been overwhelmingly more bad baseball—years and years of unwatchable play—and this year is the worst in the history of the club. For longtime fans, it’s become beyond frustrating because ownership is at the root of the problem—unwilling to fire the worst General Manager in the world—leaving some true baseball junkies jaded.
Personally, I’ve boycotted the Rockies since May, not watching a game in its entirety after watching 120-plus games per year the last five seasons. This may be the first year in my life I won’t go to Coors Field to root on the Rockies. Why? Because the Monforts don’t deserve my business.
Still, as the Rox sit at 49-73 as the second worst team in baseball, 30,000 fans are in attendance every day.
To say Rockies fans suck is like saying the beer in Colorado sucks. Wait, he said this too? How remarkably idiotic. About as idiotic as saying fans should hope for a playoff run from a team that’s 19 games back in late August.
What can we expect from someone that’s not from here?
The sad truth is we live in such a beautiful, wonderful, spectacular state that people can’t wait to flock here. Texans, New Yorkers, Californians and Bostonians alike come in to our state, drive like maniacs and spew negativity that comes so natural to them.
These people could ruin Christmas, and for their poor families, probably do.
As a true Coloradan, I sometimes wish all those damn negative, biased out-of-towners just went back home if they don’t like it here.
I love it here and so do my Centennial State brethren.
