I always use the freshest ingredients and my secret spices make my breading one of a kind. Here are Colin’s fantasy nuggets for NFL week 5.

Some Sundays start off better than others. For owners of Calvin Johnson week five was one to forget. News broke that Megatron would be sitting out the week at about 9am, sending fantasy players scrambling for an alternate. ‘Twas terrible news for Matthew Stafford owners, too. The Lions offense was out of sorts without its pro-bowler.

David Wilson’s early TD was great news for folks who had been patiently awaiting his break out, but alas he injured his neck shortly after and was out for the rest of the game. He’ll miss the Giants’ week six tilt, too. Speaking of waiting for Giants to break out, if you started Hakeem Nicks you felt pretty clever.

Another guy who looked to be in for a big day pulled up lame with a hammy. Look for Michael Vick to miss at least the next game, if not more. ‘Twas a shame, too, since the Giants were letting him run wild.

Offensive scoring was tough to come by during the first half of the early games but it picked up as the afternoon rolled on. One guy who was immune to the slow start was Jimmy Graham, who had over 100 yards receiving by half-time. He’s the top scoring non-QB in most leagues. Speaking of Saints, Pierre Thomas was the “sleeper” of week five, scoring two TDs for many, many benches.

Another player who might have lit up your bench in week five was Alshon Jeffrey. It appears as though the Brandon Marshall era is over in Chicago where Jeffrey had ten catches, a TD and over 200 yards receiving. In touchdown heavy leagues, though, he lagged behind TY Hilton who had two TDs on his 5 for 140.
Reuben Randle was another bench stud. His two TDs and 96 on 4 made him a top WR play, owned in only 37% of Yahoo! leagues.

Peyton Manning and Tony Romo put on quite a show, tossing four and five TDs respectively. They were the two top producers in all of fantasy this week. Six of the top fifteen week five producers were involved in the historic Broncos / Cowboys clash. Oh, and Dez Bryant is a stud!

Don’t look now, but Denver’s Julius Thomas is closing in on the number two spot among TEs.
