Baseball may not have Jamie Moyer to push around anymore.

Colin D. | May 30, 2012

It’s a sad day for Rockies fans and for baseball fans everywhere.

Root Sports’ Tracy Rongolsby just tweeted: “Rockies designate Jamie Moyer for assignment.”

In other words, the nearly 50 year-old pitcher is being essentially released by the Rockies. They must now either trade him or let him go.

Chances are he will retire rather than suffer the indignity of being a minor league player in some organization. It’s doubtful, after all, that Moyer will be called back up to the majors.

It’s probably the end of the road for Moyer who earlier this season became the oldest starting pitcher to win a game in the majors. Heck, with a little run support Moyer might have won 3 or 4 more games before it came to this point.

The Reds simply tore Moyer to shreds last week. Apparently the Rockies have seen enough.
