Why this hasn’t happened earlier is somewhat puzzling, however the Brooklyn Cyclones, a New York Met affiliated team has scheduled July 5th, 2014 as “Salute to Seinfeld Night”.
Best idea ever.
To celebrate the show about nothing on the 25th anniversary of its first airing, MCU Ballpark will transform into many of the Seinfeld-isms that has made it so famous and such a cult favorite. The first 2,500 fans to arrive at the ballpark will receive Keith Hernandez “Magic Loogie” Bobble Heads, taken from the infamous episode where Newman and Kramer accuse Hernandez of spitting on them in a JFK grassy knoll type bit.
The actual ballpark, located in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn will be renamed Vandelay Industries Park for the day, stemming from George Costanza’s fictitious moniker and Latex Company name that weaves its way through the series.
The Cyclones are also promising a free ticket to patrons whose business card indicates that they are actually employed as a latex salesman. Those who channel their inner Newman and show up to the park in a mailman outfit will get to throw out a ceremonial first pitch. That could get ugly, and long.
Other Seinfeld activities will take place scattered around the concourse including an Elaine dance contest, various Risk games and an “airing of grievances” table in honor of the Festivus episode.
The Cyclones players will get in on the fun by wearing puffy shirts during batting practice. “But I don’t want to be a pirate!”
Tickets go on sale for this amazing nod to Seinfeld on May 10, with a presale planned for Cyclone’s followers on social media.
Road trip, anyone?
