A South Stands Radio Mystery!

John Reidy | June 19, 2012

The South Stands Denver Fancast can be crude and crass, but it’s probably better than your show on a big talk radio station.

When you talk shit about South Stands Denver, people listen.

Or maybe not.

Someone did talk about the site and award winning podcast on local sports radio the other day, but no one could find out who, what and more importantly, why they were talking shit.

A trusted source stumbled onto what they claimed was a couple of bros on 104.3 The Fan, disparaging the South Stands Denver as crude and how they would never deign to appear on the successful podcast. Well, it’s hard to invite you when we don’t know who you are.

We put out the feelers late yesterday asking if anyone heard the broadcast. I even went so far as to ask the Fan directly via its Twitter feed. Nothing. Then someone mentioned Scott Hastings may have said something. Hastings, getting back to us via his Twitter account, said no, but offered “much love” our way.

So who was it? Was it Joel Klatt who’s ended up on the business end of a few stories on the site and a few rants on the podcast? Probably not. Klatt has been pretty cool about it and has reached out to Colin and offered to talk to him any time. Doubling back and saying something like that – on air – doesn’t seem very smart.

But for somebody trying to get themselves some attention it does seem like the right way to go. Chastising South Stands Denver is a sure fire way to get your name in lights. Or at least get made fun of. Just ask Les Shapiro. So my guess is that a nobody radio host, craving the attention and the ratings a Joel Klatt or Scott Hastings may get, decided to bait a trap and see if any of us would fall in to it.

But it didn’t work. The South Stands Denver Fancast can be crude and crass, but it’s probably better than your show on a big talk radio station. Because the sad fact is, of all the sports fans we know, no one heard this but a random friend. It’s ok, keep talking shit – we love the publicity. And if you ever want to discuss it, mystery radio host, you know where to find us.
