It’s almost hard to say what’s worse: waking up to the reality that the Broncos had been blown out in the Super Bowl or waking up to realize that the Patriots had won. Sunday’s performance by New England assured the Pats a fourth title in six tries under Bill Belichick with Tom Brady at QB. While it was an impressive defensive play that sealed the victory for New England, it was Tom Brady’s poise down double-digits in the fourth quarter that put the Pats in position to lift the Lombardi Trophy.
While it pains me to write this, you can forget all about the old Manning VS Brady debate. It’s over. For better or for worse Tom Terrific is the undisputed greatest quarterback of his generation. Brady has entered the “of all time” discussion. His contemporaries are no longer deserving of comparison to him. Maybe some day Andrew Luck or Russell Wilson will be conversation along with Brady but they both have a whole lot of winning to do first. By the time either of those quarterbacks enter that rarified air Tom Brady will have long since retired and his legacy will only have grown.

The Patriots are a factor every single season and that consistency has a whole lot to do with Brady. He works as hard as any pro athlete in any sport and it shows. I, like every Denver fan, want to deny Brady’s greatness but I can’t. Not anymore.
Four Super Bowl titles. Four. Brady has won as many championship games as Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana. One more and he will be the all-time champion of champions. He has also lost two Super Bowls. That means that he has played in six of them – which means that he has appeared in 12.25% of ALL SUPER BOWLS! Think about that for a second. As rich and as storied as the history of the NFL has been and this cleft-chinned fellow can lay claim to having been in the big game in six of fourteen seasons. It would be impressive enough had he simply been in the playoffs that often – much less the Super Bowl.
As tough as it is to admit, Tom Brady will go down as one of the greatest ever. Someday I will tell my grandkids about him and what it was like to see his career unfold. He is a once-in-a-generation type of talent. The fact that he is also one of the most good looking players in the NFL is just salt in this Broncos fan’s wounds. Oh, and he’s married to a super model and he has a moat around his mansion. Good Lord.
Manning? Please. Number 18’s career doesn’t hold a candle to Tom Brady’s. Luckily, Broncos fans can still find solace in knowing that number 12 will still never compare to number 7.
