Mike Klis confused a quarterback for the the creator and ruler of the universe and source of all moral authority
If you haven’t heard by now, the Broncos are kicking off the Sunday Night Football schedule this season in a showdown with the Colts at Mile High. It should be exciting. There’s no question that NBC will make a pretty big deal about Peyton Manning’s relationship with the Colts organization. But will the network equate Manning to a superhuman being or spirit worshiped as having power over nature or human fortunes?
That’s what Mike Klis did today.
In this post announcing the big Sunday night opener Klis refers to Manning as God – with a capital “G” – not once, but twice.
Now, number 18 is certainly a very special football player but is he really the eternal being who created and preserves the world?
It’s pretty offensive to Christians – and people of most faiths for that matter – to refer to a football player as any god, much less THE God. It’s kind of like using a reference to war in describing sports only far, far worse.
Peyton Manning was a hero in Indianapolis. He’s a hero here (kind of). What he’s not is the all-being master of time space and dimension.
