SB Nation calls Broncos “a bunch of assholes”
“For SB Nation to publish this awful piece on their main national page completely discredits its brand. Worse, it makes quality sub-sites like Mile High Report look bad.”

When it comes to blogging I am no prude and I certainly do not object to the measured use of harsh language in sports writing. There is a pretty clear delineation between the “standards” of newspapers and mainstream sites and those of sites like this one. But there is a “middle” layer of sites where standards are less clearly defined – the national aggregators such as Bleacher Report and SB Nation – where advertising is sold on a global scale and pointed at individual markets around the USA.
Mile High Report is a site under the banner of SB Nation. The writers there do an excellent job covering the Broncos, are credentialed and act responsibly. That’s why I was shocked to find an article of SB Nation’s primary site, authored by Jon Bois, that is not only harshly critical of the Broncos’ performance in Super Bowl 48 (which we all admit was awful) but is foul and irresponsibly written. It’s as though every standard my which SB Nation writers are held to was simply thrown out the window by one “associate editor” who also happens to be a Chiefs wonk.
The headline of the article reads, “Hey y’all got y’alls’ asses whooped”.
OK, Jon. I think we knew that. I think everybody knew that. That’s not really analysis, is it? Nor is this statement, “they just got whooped because they just sucked” or this one, “they lost 43-8 like a bunch of baby children”. Pardon my French, but what is that shit?
If this guy wants to use a blog to just mercilessly hammer the Broncos and spew foul language shouldn’t he build a site of his own (like this one)? How can SB Nation, an advertising-supported site with sponsors like Allstate Insurance (who has the current banner ads) justify publishing this crap? I would think that writers for quality SB Nation sites like Mile High Report would have to be appalled.
Consider this poorly-written sentence: “What’s another thing that’s crazy is that the Broncos started sucking ass right away.”
What’s another thing that’s crazy? Really, hack?
Here’s another gem: “Like literally half the times that’s happened, it was the Broncos.”
This guy writes for your national front page, SB Nation? And I though the Broncos were embarrassing.
For SB Nation to publish this awful piece on their main national page completely discredits its brand. Worse, it makes quality sub-sites like Mile High Report look bad. Personally, I never understood the need for bloggers to gravitate toward aggregators. It’s not that tough to build out a Joomla or WordPress site and sell it yourself. Having talked to people that write for SB Nation and Bleacher Report I have learned that the main attraction to them is reach. It’s just easier to be read by more people if you’re part of something larger as opposed to striking out on your own. But articles like Jon Bois’ disaster make everybody who work hard producing content for SB Nation look just plain bad.
Bois claims, “Hey seriously I am not a nerd. I mostly use my computer to watch sports and listen to rap.”
Maybe he’s not a nerd, but I suspect he is one. He’s a terrible writer to be sure. Moreover he’s a pox on the blogging community – the kind of guy that sets the avocation back to the “mother’s basement” days and gives the mainstream media a reason to puff up its chest.
