The Monday Mommy: Where will you watch the Super Bowl?

With the big game less than a week away, most folks whether you have a dog in the fight or not, are beginning to plan and decide what to do for Super Bowl XLVIII.

Is it better for your sanity to stay home and watch it alone in case it doesn’t go your way or would it behoove you to go to a big party to celebrate with others if the Broncos are hoisting that trophy in the end?

These are tough decisions to make and I am here to sort it all out for you.

Big Party

Pros – The camaraderie amongst a throng of fans all cheering for the same team is an amazing thing.  It’s tough to beat the energy in a room when things are going well and victory is near. The high fives, chest bumps and twerks are so much more exciting when shared with others, for obvious reasons.

The food selection is always of a greater variety and in turn more exciting when there are a greater number of people in the mix.  If each person or family brings a dish, a snack or a beverage, the choices for gluttonous activity becomes elevated. Which is one of the glorious parts of the Super Bowl, right?

Cons- Jockeying for a seat with a good view of the television at a big Super Bowl party is a strategic game in itself. You have the people that actually care about the game, sprinkled in with those that are just there to eat, socialize and maybe catch a funny commercial.  If you’re lucky, the people that don’t care about the game will hang out in the kitchen or another random room in the house and leave the prime seats for the rest of us.

However, we all know that isn’t always the case. There are the new-ish significant others that want to fit in and hang with the football watching crowd, or the band wagoners that may pretend to care since the Broncos are actually in it this year.

If things become stressful and the Broncos are not playing the way that we all expect them to, it’s tough to have to be social and deal with other people. It is also difficult for those that are not true fans to comprehend this and they will probably attempt to still chat with you about their random co-worker or their new dog.  No fun.

There will most always be a line for the bathroom.  Enough said.

Sports Bar

Pros – Much like a Super Bowl party atmosphere, a big amped up sports bar can be a load of fun for the big game.  Everyone wearing their gear, cheering on the Broncos together in glorious harmony is a pretty amazing thing. Plus, there’s always opposing fans at a sports bar to pick on and ridicule when things go Denver’s way.

A full menu of yummy food and varying libations is available at a sports bar, allowing you to sample and eat many different items throughout the game, satisfying our need for mass consumption during the Super Bowl.

Cons – The Bill. After all is said and done, one can drop a pretty penny hanging out at a sports bar for nearly four hours, especially during the biggest game of the year.

Much like a big house party, the bathroom situation is a bit of a downer, especially for us women that actually care about the game.  We find ourselves in the bathroom with chatty ladies, trying to make themselves pretty for their dates, when all we want to do is relieve ourselves and get back to watching.

Let’s not forget of course, the drunken ladies who are fighting with their significant others over something stupid, distracting and taking away from the game watching. This most certainly happens at house parties too, and I probably should have included this above as well.

Stay Home

Pros – Hanging at your own house to watch the Super Bowl certainly has its merits. There will be no one to take your seat when you get up to refill or use the restroom.  The volume on the television is what you would like it to be, with no one giving any input whatsoever.

You are free to pace around the room, throw things at walls and scream at the top of your lungs at the television without so much as a glance from anyone  for all four quarters if you so desire.

You can even pause the game to run to the store if needed and not miss one minute of the action.

Cons – If and when the Broncos win Super Bowl 48, the celebration will be small, just you and perhaps a friend, spouse and or kids. Sharing the huge win with others after such a phenomenal season is something very powerful and we should not take it lightly.

I personally have not decided where I will take in the big matchup between the Broncos and Seahawks on Sunday.  Like everyone else, I will weigh the pros and cons and eventually do what’s best for me as a fan and my family as well.

We want to put ourselves in the best possible position for success and what will make us happiest on game day.

Whatever you decide to do, enjoy yourselves, be responsible and GO BRONCOS!
