Boston papers blast Belichick and the Patriots, which is awesome.

Looking ahead it is the Seattle Seahawks that concern the Broncos and their devoted fans. The Super Bowl is still more than a week away, though. The AFC Championship game was only three days ago. It’s still acceptable to bask in Denver’s victory over New England and one way to indulge is to take a look at what is being said about the Patriots in the Boston papers. There were a couple of really fun columns today.
Ron Borges of the Boston Herald asserted that Bill Belichick’s accusations relating to Wes Welker’s screen play on Aqib Talib were a smoke screen to deflect attention away from his own failings. He wrote, “Belichick may hate the media, but he knows how to manipulate it. He knows today’s media has the attention span of a fruit fly and in too many cases the depth of a thimble. That being how it is, distracting them was a lot easier than distracting Peyton Manning or “Pot Roast” Knighton.” That’s fun stuff.
Borges’ column destroys Belichick. The columnist points out that, aside from the Hoody himself, nobody supports the claim that Wes Welker was trying to injure Talib. He calls Belichick’s statement “false” and accuses the coach of making a bad situation worse: “Belichick understood it didn’t matter that what he said was not only asinine but also a lie, nor did it matter that it made him appear petty and classless, because after a loss what’s new about that?” Oh, baby.

Ben Volin makes the case that the Patriots “didn’t belong on the same field” as the Broncos on Sunday. He also goes on to write: “But this wasn’t just about Manning getting the better of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. The Broncos were clearly the more talented team, across the board.” And then there’s this literary gem: “The Patriots would have had to play a perfect game just to have a chance, but they were physically dominated in almost every facet of the game. There’s no question, the better team won.” Delicious.
As ferociously as Volin’s column tears apart the Patriots it showers praise upon the Broncos. Volin writes: “Manning was masterful” and “His reads were flawless.” Specifically, Volin glows about this play: “Manning also noticed that the Patriots’ two deep safeties were taking several steps back after the snap, and when the Patriots left the middle of the field open, he checked into a perfect draw play, which Knowshon Moreno broke for a 28-yard run.” Oh, what fun.
It could have been the Broncos taking the beating this week from their local scribes but alas it’s the Patriots falling victim to the pen being mightier than the sword. So, instead of looking ahead and wondering how the Broncos will match up against the Seahawks today, fire up a web browser and read what the New England media is saying about Bill Belichick and the Patriots. It will make you smile.
