Twitter, especially in the sports realm can be a very cruel place. In fact, social media in general tends to pile on a person in case of wrong doing or lift up and glorify them for something well done.
Sometimes, it just takes one lonely sole to start an avalanche of ridicule. Last night was one of those times as a sports fan that was so frustrating to watch go down.
Before the start of the Broncos game in Kansas City, Knowshon Moreno was spotted tearing up, well raining streams of tears during our country’s national anthem. Immediately people were ripping into him for being too emotional and unmanly.
Bleacher Report, amongst many other sites tweeted out an article mid-game devoted to that very subject complete with a gif of his crying session. I would assume on NFL Sunday that many legitimate football stories are taking place, however to each their own I guess.

The emotion that comes along with that song is heightened on such a big stage, whether you are a spectator in the stands or an athlete down on that field.
Do I cry like Moreno did when I listen to the Star Spangled Banner? Not exactly, but my body just doesn’t work that way. He is apparently a guy who sheds an unusual amount of tears when he cries and there is nothing wrong with it.
Moreno has earned the right to cry with as much voracity as he can muster during that song.
The Broncos running back has come a long way both on and off the field since former head coach turned Denver arch enemy Josh McDaniels drafted him in the first round of the 2009 NFL draft.
Gone are his off-field antics and law troubles. Moreno of 2013 is a humble, hard-working leader who appreciates every opportunity that is given to him. Just last season, after a combination of injury, fumbling and work ethic issues, he was deemed inactive for eight consecutive weeks.
Moreno was apparently humbled if not motivated by that experience and took that time to work on his game and himself. When Willis McGahee sustained an injury in Week 11, the coaches had taken notice of his endless effort and Moreno was called on for the starting job.
It was very apparent that a different football player had taken the field for the end of the 2012 season, and he was on track for a great playoff run until sustaining injury during the Baltimore Ravens divisional game. That and the Broncos lost.
For the first twelve weeks of this 2013 season, Moreno has been a solid go-to back for the Broncos. He gives every single thing that he has play after play. He fights for every yard and will not be taken down easily or without a fight.
Standing on the field at Arrowhead was an extremely emotional time for Knowshon Moreno. He suffered a season- ending ACL tear on that very field in November of 2011- there was a chance that he could have been out of football forever. There he was, just over two years later and he was back as the starter in the Broncos backfield.
Not only is Moreno still playing the game that he loves, he is doing it at a high level. One that many never thought would be included in his NFL future.
So, give the guy a break. If he wants to curl up in fetal position and sob like an infant so be it. He is no less of a man, athlete or football player. He’s the guy I want on my team, period.
Especially if he continues to execute that army crawl.
