Screw the Patriots, bench the Broncos’ starters
“Let Manning rest his ankle, Julius rest his knee, Welkah rest his noggin and Decker, Knowshon and Demaryuis recover from whatever nicks, cuts and bruises may be vexing them. Give the offense a bye week and hand New England a victory all the while taking extra time to scheme for the Chiefs again at Arrowhead.”

Ah, that win over Kansas City last weekend was glorious, wasn’t it? Rare is a Broncos victory that makes you wake up on Monday feeling absolutely vindicated. That was definitely one. The Chiefs were revealed as frauds and their perfect record was at once destroyed and proven to have been a fallacy.
Positively gratifying.
Now the Broncos are preparing to fly into New England for a tilt with the powerful Patriots who, despite having been plagued with injuries, are 7-3 and in fine shape in their division. They’re currently the “3 seed” in the AFC playoff chase even though they lost on Monday Night Football to the Panthers in a game that ended on a very controversial non-call on what appeared to be at least a defensive holding if not outright pass interference by the Carolina defense.
In the aftermath of that game both quarterback Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick showed their true colors. They are poor sports and awful losers.
The Broncos should let the Patriots win on Sunday night.
Rather than getting his banged-up players prepared to play the Pats, Jack Del Rio should decide to bench ‘em all. Screw the Patriots. Don’t even give Bill Belichick the pleasure of facing Denver at full strength. Let Manning rest his ankle, Julius rest his knee, Welkah rest his noggin and Decker, Knowshon and Demaryuis recover from whatever nicks, cuts and bruises may be vexing them. Give the offense a bye week and hand New England a victory all the while taking extra time to scheme for the Chiefs again at Arrowhead.
Guess what? If the Patriots beat the Broncos on Sunday and the Chargers beat the Chiefs – then the Broncos march in and beat them again, Kansas City will fall behind New England in the AFC standings, increasing the odds that KC, not New England will wind up at Mile High early in the post-season. Wouldn’t we rather have a chance at thumping the Chiefs not once, not twice but THRICE on our way to the Super Bowl than have Tom Brady come in here any sooner than the AFC Championship game?
The Broncos don’t need to win this week. They need to win next week. They’re not going to go 15-1 this season. They could go 14-2, though, if they give their guys a little extra time to rest before the stretch run. Besides, there’s something satisfying about the idea of running Osweiler and crew out onto the field on Sunday, showing as little respect to New England and their bratty coach as possible.
Two wins over KC in three weeks will tide us over.
