Here’s your stupid Broncos / Bravehearts prediction

The man who coached the Broncos to both of the championships the Broncos have earned in franchise history brings his new team to Denver for the very first time today for  a tilt years in the making. The red-faced Shanahan brings with him second-year sensation Robert Griffin III who appears to be on the mend from one really messed up knee.

Griffin’s mobility versus Peyton Manning’s lack of it will be one factor to keep an eye on today. While RG seems to be hitting his stride we learned this morning that Manning is dealing with a high ankle sprain.

Luckily, the Broncos have a speedy linebacking corps which should be able to mostly contain the Redskins QB, forcing him to be a more traditional passer than he prefers to be. Still, Washington will move the ball versus the Broncos.

I see the game script in this one unfolding much like the games on Denver’s early schedule. The score will remain close through the first half, partly due to a Broncos’ turnover. The gap at the break will be no greater than a Matt Prater field goal. Call it 24-21 Broncos at that point.

Assuming that Peyton Manning remains on the game for the Broncos, the third quarter will belong to Denver. Manning will throw two TD strikes in the period, while the Bravehearts will be held to field goals. 38-24 entering the third.

In the fourth quarter Washington will give Broncos fans a scare. A second Denver turnover early in the period will allow the Bravehearts to close the gap with a quick passing score. Then, Denver will punt on their next possession, allowing their opponent to score again, settling for three this time. With the score now 38-37 Denver, the Broncos will be forced to post one final deciding TD.

Final score, Broncos 45, Bravehearts 37.
