Our week eight NFL picks VS the spread

Colin D. | October 26, 2013

In our annual NFL pickoff VS the spread, which rolls on clear through to the Super Bowl, Colin (53-49-4), John (47-55-4) and Scott (52-50-4) are middling while our Buddy Snyder (39-63-4) finds himself in a pretty deep hole. The fellows found some disagreement this week so we will see some shift in the standings.

Here’s how they see it going down…

Tampa Bay VS Carolina (-6)

It’s another hum-dinger of a Thursday nighter as the mighty Panthers come to Tampa for a clash with the dominant Buccaneers. Or, who am I kidding? This game sucks balls.

Colin’s pick:  Carolina -6

John’s pick: Carolina -6

Snyder’s pick: Tampa Bay +6

Scott’s pick:  Carolina -6

(London) Jacksonville VS San Francisco (-16.5)

Those poor Jaguars have been on the wrong end of some massive spreads this season. It’s because they are so poor that they have been designated as the official team of the London games for the foreseeable future.

Colin’s pick: Jacksonville +16.5

John’s pick: San Francisco -16.5

Snyder’s pick: San Francisco -16.5

Scott’s pick: San Francisco -16.5

Dallas @ Detroit (-3)

This should be a good game. The Cowboys and Lions are in many ways similar teams. Vegas is giving Detroit the standard “home 3” in this one, which should be a shootout.

Colin’s pick: Dallas +3

John’s pick: Dallas +3

Snyder’s pick: Detroit -3

Scott’s pick: Dallas +3

NY Giants @ Philadelphia (-5.5)

Michael Vick gets the start this week for the Eagles who are hosting division rival NY this week in a game that they have to win to keep pace with the Cowboys in the NFC east.

Colin’s pick: Philadelphia -5.5

John’s pick: Philadelphia -5.5

Snyder’s pick: NY Giants +5.5

Scott’s pick: Philadelphia -5.5

Cleveland @ Kansas City (-7.5)

The Chiefs offense has not been very productive so far in 2013. It hasn’t had to be. KC has one of the league’s best defenses, which is not good news for the Browns, who have made the switch to quarterback Jason Campbell, their third starter this year.

Colin’s pick: Kansas City -7.5

John’s pick: Kansas Shitty -7.5

Snyder’s pick: Cleveland +7.5

Scott’s pick: Kansas City -7.5

Buffalo @ New Orleans (-11.5)

The Buffalo Bills have not looked like world beaters this season, but they have been covering the spread. Can they do it again in the Super Dome against a Saints team coming off the bye?

Colin’s pick: New Orleans -11.5

John’s pick: Buffalo +11.5

Snyder’s pick: New Orleans -11.5

Scott’s pick: New Orleans -11.5

Miami @ New England (-6.5)

Tom Brady has not looked like Tom Brady so far this season, but he finally has his security blanket back in Rob Gronkowski. This week Brady and the Pats play host to the Miami Dolphins and Ryan Tannehill.

Colin’s pick: New England -6.5

John’s pick: New England -6.5

Snyder’s pick: New England -6.5

Scott’s pick: New England -6.5

NY Jets @ Cincinnati (-6.5)

Rex and his Jets have shocked the NFL this season and are not far behind the Pats in the AFC East. They have to keep it rolling as they head for Ohio to face Andy Dalton and the Bengals.

Colin’s pick: Cincinnati -6.5

John’s pick: Jets +6.5

Snyder’s pick: NY Jets +6.5

Scott’s pick: NY Jets +6.5

Oakland VS Pittsburgh (-2.5)

Terrell Pryor and the Raiders are slight home dogs this week to a Steelers team who finally found a way to win in week six.

Colin’s pick: Oakland +2.5

John’s pick: Pittsburgh -2.5

Snyder’s pick: Pittsburgh -2.5

Scott’s pick: Pittsburgh -2.5

Washington @ Denver (-12.5)

The Broncos have failed to cover the number in each of their past two games. They are heavy favorites again this week, welcoming Mike Shanahan, RGIII and the Redskins to Denver.

Colin’s pick: Washington +12.5

John’s pick: Washington +12.5

Snyder’s pick: Denver -12.5

Scott’s pick: Denver -12.5

Atlanta @ Arizona (-2.5)

The Falcons are so banged up that Vegas has them as underdogs to the Cards this week. That’s got to hurt even more than Julio Jones’ knee.

Colin’s pick: Atlanta +2.5

John’s pick: Atlanta +2.5

Snyder’s pick: Atlanta +2.5

Scott’s pick: Atlanta +2.5

Minnesota VS Green Bay (-9)

It would be fun if Brett Favre could come out of retirement for this one.

Colin’s pick: Green Bay -9

John’s pick: Green Bay -9

Snyder’s pick: Green Bay -9

Scott’s pick: Green Bay -9

St Louis VS Seattle (-11)

The Rams host the Seahawks this week having just lost Sam Bradford for the season.

Colin’s pick: St Louis +11

John’s pick: Seattle -11

Snyder’s pick: Seattle -11

Scott’s pick: Seattle -11
