Our week six NFL picks VS the spread
As our annual NFL pickoff VS the spread rolls on all but one of our pickers is still in the black. Our Buddy, Snyder is still in rough shape. It’s a long season, though, and we’re picking all the way through the “big game in February” so he has plenty of time to climb back.
Here’s how Colin Daniels, John Reidy, Scott Stafford and Snyder see things working out ijn week six.

NY Giants @ Chicago (-7.5)
Wow, are the Giants ever bad this year. Nobody saw them matching Jacksonville loss-for-loss, but that’s what they have done. The G-Men are 0-5 heading into the Windy City for a tilt with the favored Bears, whose QB can probably relate to Eli Manning’s struggles.
Colin’s pick: Chicago -7.5
Reidy’s pick: Chicago -7.5
Snyder’s pick: Chicago -7.5
Scott’s pick: Chicago -7.5
Oakland @ Kansas City (-8.5)
Terrell Pryor has been a nice surprise for the Raider faithful, willing his team to a couple of wins – including one in San Diego last week. Pryor takes his road show into Kansas City in week six to face one of the league’s nastiest defenses. The still-undefeated home team is an understandable favorite in this one, but Pryor is a bit of an X-factor.
Colin’s pick: Oakland +8.5
Reidy’s pick: Oakland +8.5
Snyder’s pick: Oakland +8.5
Scott’s pick: Kansas City -8.5
Tampa Bay VS Philadelphia (-1)
Neither the Bucs nor the Eagles will trot out the QB that started the season for them in week six. Tampa’s Mike Glennon and Philly’s Nick Foles will presumably get starts. With Michael Vick under center the Eagles would probably be a bigger favorite. As it stands Vegas is giving the Bucs one point, making this game almost a pick-‘em.
Colin’s pick: Philadelphia -1
Reidy’s pick: Philadelphia -1
Snyder’s pick: Tampa Bay +1
Scott’s pick: Tampa Bay +1
Baltimore VS Green Bay (-3)
The Super Bowl champions are home dogs this week to Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, who are well on their way toward the post-season. It’s a crucial game for the Ravens who are in the thick of a difficult AFC North battle for first place.
Colin’s pick: Green Bay -3
Reidy’s pick: Green Bay -3
Snyder’s pick: Green Bay -3
Scott’s pick: Green Bay -3
Cleveland VS Detroit (-2.5)
There’s still no official word yet as to whether or not Calvin Johnson will suit up for the Lions in week six, which makes the Lions’ week six trip to Cleveland a bit of a sticky game to call. I would not be this game lacking clarity on Megatron but we make our picks VS the spread mid-week and live with the decisions we make. Cleveland’s defense has been stout, but it will look much feistier if Johnson’s out.
Colin’s pick: Cleveland -2.5
Reidy’s pick: Detroit -2.5
Snyder’s pick: Cleveland -2.5
Scott’s pick: Detroit -2.5
Carolina @ Minnesota (-2.5)
The Josh Freeman era has not yet begun in Minnesota. Matt Cassel will make the start for the Vikes in week six in place of an injured Christian Ponder. They host the Carolina Panthers who has shown signs of being one of the best and worst teams in the NFL. Carolina’s level of play depends a lot on how Cam Newton looks in a given week.
Colin’s pick: Minnesota (-2.5)
Reidy’s pick: Minnesota -2.5
Snyder’s pick: Minnesota -2.5
Scott’s pick: Minnesota -2.5
St. Louis @ Houston (-7.5)
It looks as if QB Matt Schaub may be close to losing his gig, although the Texans still aren’t saying that. Schaub has been beyond awful this season. Luckily, he has the awful Rams coming onto his place this week. Houston is heavily favored to take care of the Lambs this week. But is this line too big?
Colin’s pick: Houston -7.5
Reidy’s pick: Houston -7.5
Snyder’s pick: St. Louis +7.5
Scott’s pick: St. Louis +7.5
Pittsburgh @ NY Jets (-2.5)
Spunky Geno Smith has his Jets flying high. New York shocked Atlanta – and America on Monday night. Now they’re back home to host the Steelers who are coming off their bye week. Pittsburgh’s cause will be completely lost if it can’t find a way to beat the Jets.
Colin’s pick: NY Jets -2.5
Reidy’s pick: Pittsburgh +2.5
Snyder’s pick: Jets -2.5
Scott’s pick: Pittsburgh +2.5
Buffalo VS Cincinnati (-7.5)
The Bills were looking pretty good with EJ Manual under center, but the rookie QB is hurt and he will be sidelined for awhile. The Bills brought in another rook from their practice squad for this one. You can look up his name if you want to. Not a bad week to start Cincy’s defense in your fantasy league.
Colin’s pick: Cincinnati -7.5
Reidy’s pick: Cincinnati -7.5
Snyder’s pick: Cincinnati -7.5
Scott’s pick: Cincinnati -7.5
Tennessee @ Seattle (-13.5)
Seattle’s defense is tough on the road. It’s downright vicious at home. The struggling Titans come Northwest this week without their quarterback, Jake Locker, who is one of a long list of injured signal callers. There’s not much doubt as to which team with prevail in this tilt, it’s just a question of by how much.
Colin’s pick: Seattle -13.5
Reidy’s pick: Seattle -13.5
Snyder’s pick: Seattle -13.5
Scott’s pick: Seattle -13.5
Jacksonville @ Denver (-27.5)
Here it is, folks: the biggest line in the history of NFL lines.
Colin’s pick: Jacksonville +27.5
Reidy’s pick: Jackoffsonville +27.5
Snyder’s pick: Denver -27.5
Scott’s pick: Jacksonville +27.5
Arizona @ San Francisco (-11)
The ‘Niners have left their fans feeling a bit flat at times this season. The one-time Super Bowl faves have fallen back to earth somewhat, but their week six divisional home game should give them hope. The weak Cardinals visit the City by the Bay where the home team is heavily favored.
Colin’s pick: Arizona +11
Reidy’s pick: Arizona +11
Snyder’s pick: San Franciso -11
Scott’s pick: San Francisco -11
New Orleans @ New England (-2.5)
Rob Gronkowski is expected to finally return as the Patriots play host to the Saints, who most experts have at the top of the NFL power rankings.
Colin’s pick: New Orleans -2.5
Reidy’s pick: New Orleans +2.5
Snyder’s pick: New England -2.5
Scott’s pick: New England -2.5
Washington @ Dallas (-5.5)
The Cowboys are coming off the most crushing loss any team has suffered in years, 51-48 at the hands of the Broncos. They have lay-up this week, or so it would seem. The Redskins visit Dallas for the first on their two divisional clashes with the favored Cowboys.
Colin’s pick: Dallas -5.5
Reidy’s pick: Dallas -5.5
Snyder’s pick: Dallas -5.5
Scott’s pick: Dallas -5.5
San Diego VS Indianapolis (-1.5)
The Chargers are the famous “Monday night home dog” this week with the Colts coming to their place in a game that will probably be blacked out to San Diego audiences because they have terrible fans.
Colin’s pick: San Diego +1.5
Reidy’s pick: Indianapolis -1.5
Snyder’s pick: Indianapolis -1.5
