The Knockout: Sorry ladies, Eric Decker put a ring on it
“What worries me is that Decker and the Mrs could end up taking that same path towards what could turn into a three ring circus. “

Sorry, ladies. Eric Decker is officially off the market. On Saturday the Broncos wide receiver tied the knot with his girlfriend of two years, Jessica ‘Jesse’ James. While not many people have heard of the new Mrs, she appears to be a pop singer who wants to go country. She has a few music videos out that you can watch on YouTube. What she lacks in musical talent, she makes up for with her looks—like any WAG, she’s a hottie.
As our own John Reidy posted a while ago, the couple is filming their own reality show on the E! Network as a part of a show called “Love and Other Contact Sports.” It’s sure to be a doozy. While maybe it could turn out to be some publicity for the Broncos, one can’t help but wonder how much of a distraction all this is on a starting player
It’s no secret that reality shows and athletes aren’t the best of matches. Take Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, for example. After he faced arrest and domestic battery charges for a dispute with his former wife, the Dolphins released him from his one-year contract. How did he and the former Mrs. Ocho meet? The Ultimate Catch reality show. What did they have pulled from VH1’s schedule as she was letting the ink on the divorce papers dry? Their own reality show together.
We can even look to Carmelo Anthony and his wife La La (yeah, that name goes with a real human). In three seasons of having her own reality show, she successfully made a spectacle of ‘Melo’s personal life by doubting his faithfulness and separating from him. Now, that’s all alleged and if he cheated, Anthony certainly wouldn’t be the first man to do it, but the fact that it aired to the public on a national television station makes it all feel so much dirtier. We all need a good shower after paying that much attention to anyone else’s personal life but our own.
What worries me is that Decker and the Mrs could end up taking that same path towards what could turn into a three ring circus. If you’d like to make yourself look ridiculous in front of America, that should be your own deal. I’m a little worried about how this could impact the Broncos image. Now, I’m not saying that it could potentially make the team look bad, but why put the focus where it’s not needed?
For the sake of the Broncos offense, we hope that Decker’s marriage is a long and happy one… but if the headlines ever read about a certain receiver hitting a long slump, our fingers are going to be pointing right at that reality show.
