Not so fast, Broncos Country. The Patriots won’t be that bad.
“They’ll plug right along with Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman, Daniel Fells, Jake Ballard and the rest. Hell, Bill Belichick could put Don Knotts in his offense and find a way to make him work.”

Skipping around the radio dial today it’s hard not to get the impression that folks here in Broncos Country are writing off the New England Patriots. Gronkowski is hurt, Tebow is in the fray and now Aaron Hernandez, the all-star tight end, has been released and is presumably facing hard time in the hoosegow. I say “not so fast”.
Let’s not count our chickens before they hatch, people. The Patriots aren’t the kind of team that can be knocked off the upper rungs of the NFL ladder easily. They’ll still be contenders in the AFC in 2013. Take it to the bank.
For all the same reasons that we hate the Patriots, they won’t be that bad. Yes, they’ll take a step back, but they are not going to be a sub-.500 team nor are they likely to miss the playoffs due to a couple of omissions and one rather odd seeming addition. They’ll plug right along with Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman, Daniel Fells, Jake Ballard and the rest. Hell, Bill Belichick could put Don Knotts in his offense and find a way to make him work.
We have to keep our eye on the prize and not assume that one fly has been removed from Denver’s ointment entering the 2013 season. The Patriots are here to stay. They will be a problem for the Broncos so long as the NFL’s dark overlord remains in charge. You don’t have to like the Patriots (I hate them), but you have to respect the way the team evolves without ever skipping a beat, tanking a season or failing to contend.
The Hernandez story is horrific and there are some organizations that would be rocked by it. The New England Patriots are not one of those organizations.
