Apparently the Clippers enjoy losing in the first round of the playoffs. They want George Karl.

The Nuggets were not the only NBA Western Conference squad to suffer the indignity of a first round exit from the playoffs this season. The same thing happened to the LA Clippers, “Lob City” as they are also known. The main difference between the fate of the Nuggets and that of the Clippers in 2013 is that the Clips canned their head coach, Vinny Del Negro. Do they want to replace him with George Karl?
Reports are emerging that Lob City might request permission to approach Nuggets head coach George Karl about their coaching vacancy. Mr. Yahoo! himself, Adrian Wojnarowski, floated the rumor last night and it was quickly snapped up by several other outlets including Colorado’s own Denver Stiffs, the remarkable Nuggets blog supported by SB Nation and written by a handful of extremely talented young journalists including Andrew Feinstein who wrote yesterday evening that the Nuggets should grant the Clippers the permission they seek.
I’m with Andrew on this one. The Clippers must enjoy losing in the first round if they truly want to talk to Karl. He’s a tired coach who has made it a habit to fade down the stretch. I wanted to see him canned anyway – so why would I begrudge the Clippers an opportunity to speak with him? Hey, who knows? Maybe the Clips would give old Karl a better shot at puttin’ a ring on it, too.
There’s every chance that this whole thing a veiled effort on the part of the Karl camp to prompt the offering of a contract extension from the Nuggets. Let’s all just hope that doesn’t happen. Folks are kind of looking forward to making a new start with a new coach after 2014. Perhaps it would be for the best if the Nuggets let the old man move on, gave Masai their blessing to go join the Raptors and just started over.
