Furry Scurry: Pet Run or Fetish Gathering?
“There are activities for pets and their owners to participate in as well. You have the ol’ pet/person lookalike contest, always a bit frightening and amusing at the same time. There is also an agility course that dogs can take a run through if they are feeling fast and nimble. There is even a best pet kisser contest: for real.”

In its 20th year, folks gather in Washington Park on the first Sunday of each May with their animals for the annual Furry Scurry event.
This event is the Denver Dumb Friends League’s largest annual fundraiser, with more than 12,000 humans and 5,000 dogs participating each year. It is a two-mile walk to raise awareness and funds for the homeless pets that are currently housed at the Dumb Friends League. Pet lovers get a chance to show off their fuzzy companions and also peruse the 150 pet-related vendor and sponsor booths located in their “flea-less” market.

What you will not find at Washington Park today though, is a furry convention. I know all of you animal fetish folks feel a bit misled by the title of this event. I get it. You are not alone. Apparently my husband, who has lived in Denver since 1998, has always thought this was an event for furries to gather and run around Wash Park. I’m not sure what he thought would happen after the run, but nevertheless, that was his impression.
Sorry those of you animal fetish types that were also confused by the title of this long-time event, you will have to get your animal freak on elsewhere. Try the back of the Westword or Craigs List.
