There’s an old Third Eye Blind song that goes like this: “I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend…” – and in light of Tuesday night’s embarrassing performance by the Nuggets, the majority of Nuggets fans find themselves on the verge of jumping off the Nuggets bandwagon.
Game Two was all too familiar. A lackluster performance in the playoffs highlighted by George Karl’s mind-boggling rotations and outside shooting resembling a junior high girl’s basketball team. However, all is not as it seemed last night at Pepsi Center. Denver can still, and will, win their first playoff series since 2009.
Back up and calmly remove yourself from the ledge, Nuggets Nation.
The odds of Stephen Curry and Clay Thompson shooting 65% for the rest of the series are equal to Michael Moore winning the Republican Party’s nomination for President in 2016. Simply, the Nuggets thought the series was over because David Lee is done for the remainder of the playoffs. They didn’t take Game Two seriously.
And while it’s easy to blame George Karl for that – just remember that he’s the same coach who has consistently done more with less throughout his entire tenure in Denver as coach of the Nuggets. At some point, people need to start blaming the players because it wasn’t George Karl that was shooting bricks out there on Tuesday night.
Mark it down – the George Karl led Denver Nuggets will get out of the first round of the NBA Playoffs this year. The Nuggets were brought back to earth last night. Regardless of what the media wants to claim, the Nuggets are a better team than the Warriors and they will prove that over the remainder of this series.
And now, the landscape of the Western Conference seems to be changing. Stephen Curry’s old nemesis known as his left ankle is acting up again – one has to wonder how the Warriors will fair sans David Lee combined a non-healthy Stephen Curry. However, the word out of Oklahoma City is next to stunning – Russell Westbrook needs to have surgery on his meniscus. Suddenly, OKC doesn’t look as daunting as they did on Wednesday morning.
The Nuggets might be finally catching a break, folks. Could it be that a perfect storm is brewing? Or are we just being set up for one more round of first round heartbreak?
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens tonight in Oakland, California when Game Three tips off at 8:30 mountain standard time.
